Signs That You Have An Acute Folic Acid Deficiency

Many people face an acute lack of folic acid and only realize this after medical analysis. In medical terms, vitamin B9 or folic acid is essential for health because it helps to produce red blood cells and helps to repair DNA.

Here are some signs that you don’t have enough acid folic in your body:

1. Cognitive problems

Folic acid is very important for the central nervous system, and when you don’t have enough in your body, the body is experiencing depression. You can also have trouble concentrating, being irritated and forgetting things. If folic acid is absent from the body for a long time, it increases the risk of developing dementia or Alzheimer’s.

2. Body Pain
In the severe case of anemia, the brain receives less oxygen and the arteries of the brain swell, producing severe headaches. You can also experience chest and leg pains.

3. Pale skin
Hemoglobin is responsible for transporting oxygen from the lungs to the tissues. And if folic acid is missing, the skin will look pale.

4. Breathing problems
During exercises, if you feel you can not breathe, it’s a sign that the oxygen level in the body is low. You may also have heart rhythm problems, dizziness or even fainting.

5. Swollen tongue and mouth pain
These symptoms usually occur when the lack of folic acid is quite severe, so don’t neglect them. If you notice that the tongue is swollen, red on the tip and on the edges, and if you have pain when it’s swallowed, it’s a sign that you have lack of folic acid.

These symptoms are not negligible at all. Pregnant women, in particular, need an increased amount of folic acid during pregnancy. Following blood tests, the doctor will determine the amount of folic acid required.
